It’s a Warm, Warm World:
The Science of Global Warming
and Alternative Energies
Event Time: 1:00 p.m to 3:00 p.m.
Event Location: The Glen, Room 101
Event Type: Panel Discussion
Event Location: The Glen, Room 101
Event Type: Panel Discussion
Participants:
- David Archer, Professor of Geophysical Science, The University of Chicago
- Otto Doering, Professor of Agricultural Economics, Purdue University
- Raymond Pierrehumbert, Professor of Geophysical Science, The University of Chicago
- Moderator: Jack Darn, Director, Sierra Club
Synopsis:
Expect a lively interchange between these scientific experts on questions of how exactly global warming will influence life on earth, as well as what alternative energy sources present us with the best opportunities to stabilize our global climate: biofuels, nuclear power, wind or solar power. Participants will discuss bestcase and worst-case projections of our future climate, if we work aggressively to decrease emissions or if we fail to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. This will give a sense not only of the positive effect we can have on the crisis if we act now but also of the potentially dire the consequences of taking no action.
